Based on the insights of University Library “Svetozar Marković” personnel, first master thesis based at practical application of gamification in libraries, on a world scale, has been presented at Faculty of Organizational Sciences in November 2013th.
Master thesis has been titled “Improvement of Dart Consortium Organization Using Gamification Practice”, was presented by the candidate Diana Parlić on 27th of November of 2013th, under supervision of committee of Mladen Čudanov, PhD; Ondrej Jaško, PhD and Vladimir Obradović, PhD, with immense support of Adam Sofronijević, Director of the Department for library digitalization systems and cultural programs. Dart portal is leading e-thesis portal, synthesizing Master and PhD thesis from 541 universities and 27 countries of Europe, and first to start experimenting with gamification practice. It has been estimated that this interesting field will be applied by 70% of Global 2000 companies by the end of this year, and Gartner estimates budget of 2.8 billion USD on gamification projects.
Gamification is the practice of applying game elements in a different context. A large number of business organizations in various fields use this approach to improve their business. Libraries all over the world start to use the advantages gamification opens for the nonprofit organizations.
In the scope of the project of Department of Culture and Information, Government of the Republic of Serbia: “University Library Svetozar Marković for the network of academic and public libraries: transfer of knowledge, content and programs”, during first weeks of December four lectures and workshops “Library gamification” were be held at University libraries in Belgrade, Novi Sad, Niš and Kragujevac.
